Exhibition information

Alan’s work pushed the boundaries of various media to produce considered, accidental, and  random mark making using line, texture, light and colour, which were his prime objectives. His goal was to create contemporary work, whilst retaining a traditional and naturalistic essence.

His paintings were inspired by the stunning, dramatic landscapes of the Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire countryside. His paintings combined a contemporary sensibility with a strong naturalistic foundation.

Media and Techniques

Alan explored multiple mediums, painting landscapes, still life and portraiture in oil, watercolour, acrylic and pastel. He enjoyed working in clay to sculpt figures and portrait heads from life.

Later he focused on creating mono woodblock prints using acrylic paint on various media including paper, canvas, and board.
