Artist information
I originally trained in textile design, because of my love for colour pattern and texture.
But I also love buildings, spaces and gardens and so mosaics have fulfilled all my interests really.
Mosaics are such a practical way to bring creativity colour and beauty into a space in many different ways and after 30 years I'm still finding new ways.
For this show as we are in a garden nursery I have focussed on art for the garden that has a practical use. The birdbath pieces will bring colour, structure and interest all year round.
I have collected very nice quality cups and saucers and dinner sets for their design and patterns. To many I probably shouldn't have broken them.... but most were damaged or cracked !
they add instant attraction and uniqueness and together with the lustre of the mosaic tiles they do sparkle and shine in different ways each day in the outside light.
I do work to commission so can make work to your specification and requirements.
Previous commissions have included sculptures of birds, and animals, tables, panels for bathrooms and kitchens. Floors, mirrors and large pots.
Recently I have been working on Public Art commissions for West Way Shopping Centre in Botley Oxford.
These have included a 6m horizontal mosaic panel with metal additions on top, a series of panels around a corner of there Community Centre and a sculpture with Alex Wenham depicting our connection with nature.
I enjoy collaborating with other artists and working with people in workshops and projects and have been facilitating art workshops in all sorts of capacities with children and adults in a range of settings.
I particularly enjoy the therapeutic aspect of making art and sharing that with others.
