Expression through paint has been a lifelong companion.
My inspiration is derived from absorbing the elemental effects on the landscape and the glory of terrain itself.
There is always something majestic to be found in our landscape, whether it be those almost transcendental, ethereal summer days or a wild, blustery and rugged coastline under a bruised sky. Cornwall is very dear to my heart. I spend as much time as possible here, immersing myself in the weather and the beauty of the place. Its wildness.
Our landscape resonates deep within me - is my solace in times of need, a constant joy in its ever- changing beauty and atmosphere, a place to wander and always wonder.
It all weaves together, along with the writings of my favourite authors, to inspire a passion and love I try and translate via my work.
Most images are made in several layers, using glazes and texture, applying and removing paint. The paintings evolve intuitively, and are an emotional and visceral response to the natural world.
I use acrylic and oil paint on board, canvas or panel.
After studying art at Oxford Brookes, I went to train with an art restoration studio in Berkshire, focusing primarily on the restoration and retouching of oil paintings and old masters. I also trained as a fine art bespoke picture framer with an exclusive local gallery. Subsequently I have undertaken painting courses at The Porthmeor studios in St. Ives, The Newlyn school and The RWA amongst others. My work hangs in many houses and places of work both in the UK and abroad. I now paint full time here in my Wallingford studio, after a varied and interesting working life.
