Exhibition information
I have kept a sketch book for as long as I can remember as a way of recording what I see that attracts my attention.
I draw in a variety of dry and wet media and paint in oil and acrylic . Recently I have been introducing collage into my work.
I find that I have always been drawn mainly to places and how I can capture the essence of the effect it has on me. It may be the drama or quiet softness of light and dark, an unusual composition of shapes and textures or a feeling of movement or stillness. If it is a place with which I have a strong emotional attachment, I will try and express that in my work.
I particularly love the drama and light of West Penwith , ornwall, and the gentle rivers , trees ,meadows and gardens of Oxfordshire. I love to draw and paint growth forms, so there are not many straight lines in my work!
I usually find natural forms rather than the built environment attract me most.
To an extent, the subject will affect the style in which I work, but I aim to abstract to varying degrees from what I observe.
