Caroline Chappell – portfolio

Caroline Chappell at work

Caroline Chappell: A sense of place created using strong flattened blocks of blues and greens.Caroline Chappell: Swift flowing application of paint combined with an instinctive composition maked this an evocative piece referencing windy clifftop walking.Caroline Chappell: Large painting 80x80cms framed painted in delicate shades showing blossom in a jar. Delicate blossom catches the light on a table with a bowl of oranges. Subtle use of colour and mark makes a very peaceful paintingCaroline Chappell: This little collage captures a group of houses. Each piece of painted paper is from another painting..so carries a memory.Caroline Chappell: A still life arrangement carefully considering composition and flat surface where reality is not the aim. Edges are thoughtfully rough and each object is flattened and placed. A sort of language appears.Caroline Chappell: Folds and layers of landscape and trees create a comforting sense of shelter.Caroline Chappell: a small painting showing strong areas of light and .shade under heavy blue green foliageCaroline Chappell: A landscape is glimpsed through a window. The foreground is a table with flattened perspective and carefully arranged objects.Caroline Chappell: A semi-abstract painting of a table with items carefully painted to cross the barrier between drawing and painting and to show the viewer multiple views.Caroline Chappell: A strong contrast of dark and light and expressive splashes of paint create a sense of movement in the trees. the house is half hidden by foliage.Caroline Chappell: A path lined with blue trees leads us towards rooftops glimpsed through their trunks.Caroline Chappell: Workshop image showing colour experiments and landscapes

Artist information

I trained to teach art, and did so for many years in a local comprehensive school. I continue to teach, organising a weekly adult art group as well as offering two-day art workshops.

My paintings can be found in a number of galleries(more details on my website) and have been sold to people from all over the world.

I was represented at The affordable Art Fair in London last spring and held a solo exhibition at White Chalk Gallery in Devizes last year.

Artweeks this year in the company of 7 other artists is a new experience for me, and should be fun!

Exhibition information

I work in acrylic and mixed media making paintings inspired by experiences. Landscapes of the places where I walk and drive, flowers I buy, tables full of objects carefully arranged all prompt drawings and paintings. I am driven by the creative process of painting where each brushmark is a preface to the next, each colour and shape reflects another.

My new studio is a lot smaller than the one in Chipping Norton, and I have struggled to work comfortably there, but I am gradually finding a way through.

Considering this year’s artweeks space in a marquee in a garden centre, I have added small paintings, cards, and unique personally designed wrapping paper to my range of framed paintings and giclee prints.

There should be something for everybody!
