This Exhibition is the result of work made in Scotland during a month long period of working on the West Coast Isle of Islay. Capturing the movement and restlessness of the Atlantic Ocean, the colour as the water rises and thins with the light behind allowing a translucent turqoise to show above the greens and dark blues of the deeper ocean. Contrasting this with the rich gold and red/brown earth colours of the Island and purple /red hills, it was a feast of delights.
Brenda initially studied Fine Art in Tokyo, followed by a period of teaching Textiles, before she completed a Degree in Fine Art in the UK. Since then the main focus of her work has been the exploration of wood and water. More lately a study trip to the West Coast of Scotland has provided a rich source of inspiration, as she continually painted and drew the sea and landscape sheltered from the elements in a fishing tent! The resulting 30-40 sketches and paintings have provided the basis for this year's Artweeks exhibition.
