Ariadna Alvarez – portfolio

Ariadna Alvarez, ceramicist and maker, holding a mug mid-process in her studio.

Ariadna Alvarez: A collection of hand-thrown and hand-built stoneware pieces, exploring contrast through raw, textured clay bodies and softly speckled glazes. Each form is intentionally imperfect, celebrating tactility, balance, and the quiet beauty of functional objects made to be lived with.Ariadna Alvarez: Handcrafted stoneware vessels made slowly and intuitively, balancing raw, dark clay with soft, speckled glazes. My work is rooted in function, texture, and form. Pieces designed to be used daily and to age beautifully over time.Ariadna Alvarez: Hand-thrown stoneware mug, finished with a soft speckled glaze and a raw clay base. Exhibition information

I am a ceramic artist based in Wallingford, creating both functional and sculptural pieces that celebrate raw material, texture, and form. My functional work is hand-thrown using rustic stoneware, with glazes applied sparingly to allow the natural qualities of the clay to remain present. Alongside this, I create sculptural forms using pit-firing and electric firing methods, producing organic surfaces shaped by fire, ash, and chance. Deeply inspired by nature and landscape, my work is also informed by my background in architecture, where proportion, balance, and structure play an important role. Through my ceramics, I explore the relationship between function and sculpture, creating pieces that feel timeless, tactile, and quietly expressive.

Artist information

I am a ceramic artist based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire, with a background in architecture. My work is rooted in a love of material, form, and process, and I am drawn to creating pieces that feel honest, tactile, and quietly expressive. I work mainly with stoneware, making both functional ceramics and sculptural forms, often using pit-firing and minimal glazing to allow the natural qualities of the clay to come through.

Alongside my studio practice, I teach pottery to children and adults, sharing a hands-on, process-led approach to working with clay. Nature, texture, and traditional craft strongly influence my work, as does my architectural training, where form follows function. I am interested in the balance between structure and spontaneity, creating pieces that feel timeless and grounded.
