Drawings, Paintings, Prints and works in handmade paper.
At Artweeks 2023 I showed a selection of work from the past five years which included drawings, paintings, prints and mixed media.
Starting with an image or idea, often recording and collecting with photographs, I enjoy using drawing, particularly charcoal, as a way to explore and develop these. Starting points for the works seen here include landscapes, pathways and walks, encounters, music and conversations.
Though I often begin by observing ‘real’ images, many pieces quickly become more abstract as I choose different materials and try out different techniques to explore the potential of these images. This approach makes it possible to ‘hide’ aspects of narrative, especially so in the more recent handmade paper pieces. These have gone through many stages before ending up in their ‘final’ iteration and are embedded with meaning not necessarily visible to the viewer.
I am a children’s tutor at Sunningwell School of Art where I hope to encourage the same freedom to explore and enjoy art making. I received my Foundation Diploma from West Dean College of Arts and Conservation and continue to learn, including at the Art School.
