Pause & Look - Celebrating still life
I have really enjoyed experimenting in my home studio this Spring using ‘high chroma’ pigments and cropped compositions - exploring the beauty of shapes and the colour of shadows and reflections on everyday objects and creating a fresh series of still life paintings.
Painting in any genre is joyfully absorbing; but still life in particular allows us all to pause, to really slow down and look.
My Flipbook/catalogue gives a flavour of what’s on show, but there is much more to see at ‘Fitch & Fellows’ and everything looks so much better in real life - I really hope you can pop-in, pause and look.
All my work is painted in oil on canvas board or dibond and is available to purchase framed or unframed in ‘easy to take home’ sizes (mostly 35x35cms or 30x30cms). Limited-edition prints of the originals will also be available.
I mostly paint in oil using traditional methods to support my studies and each one of my paintings is a learning experience. I love using traditional techniques to present contemporary themes; as well as experimenting with looser styles too.
Objects within a still life composition are more deeply observed than we manage in everyday life and I enjoy playing with the idea of ‘value’; finding and presenting beauty in the mundane or overlooked. Though pictorially realistic, I hope my paintings can be enjoyed on different levels. Subjects I choose to paint are often closely connected with ‘the everyday’ - my home and family or friends. They are usually composed with a particular theme in mind or an element of humour.
I am continuing to learn so much from each one of my paintings. I hope you enjoy them.
