As part of Banbury artists’ network group SeeN’s commitment to engaging the community with art and craft practices they have invited six students from the Oxfordshire & Cherwell Valley College’s School of Creative Arts to share some of their exhibition space during Oxfordshire Artweeks in May. Design Craft BA students Gill White, Claire Blackwell, Elaine Loggin, Alison Parry, Judith Hammond and Janet Cross will be showing some of the work that they have produced as a result of their studies.

The students exhibition will include some fascinating clay designs and the inspired use of recycled materials, intriguing bracelets made with textured papers and the use of vinegar to prematurely ‘age’ and colour textiles.

SeeN and Artweeks board member, Claire Reika Wright, is very enthusiastic about this new initiative which is being sponsored by Oxfordshire Artweeks as well as SeeN. “Artweeks has long wanted to engage more with the talented students in our local art schools and this this year we have been able to set up some great opportunities. The students will have exhibitions space alongside professional artists and makers who are already working in ‘the real world’ and who will be happy to pass on their knowledge and experience. The standard of work the students will be showing is really exciting and innovative.”

SeeN’s exhibition in Hanwell Village Hall starts on 5th May and runs daily through to 13th May, 12pm - 6pm with artists’ talks, from potter Penny Varley and painter Claire Reika Wright on Tues and Thurs 6-8pm.
