As we trudge towards the close of 2020, the autumn season with its wonderful colours, and bountiful harvests provides light relief from the strictures of Covid. For a time, we forget lockdown and disease, and wallow in the last warm rays of the autumnal sun as we look forward to the end of this strange year. Christmas is a goal to be attained! Quickly! For after Christmas comes the New Year. Never has a year been longed for so much as 2021. Surely it will bring relief? Merry Christmas, Everyone and a Happy New Year!

In her painting, Tricia aims to capture a moment in time, to capture its' energy, life to force and spirit. Starting her journey into Art as a Chinese Brush Painter, she takes the Chinese principle of qi or ch'i, roughly translated as "material energy" or "energy flow" to capture this concept in the non-traditional materials of oil and acrylic paint. In the paintings in her gallery, she celebrates the movement of the autumn and winter seasons. Many paintings this year have focussed on the beautiful Cotswold countryside and its’ rivers. Several were completed during lockdown from earlier plain air sketches. Celebrated too is the coast of Dorset, and particularly Hengistbury Head, Brownsea Island and nearby coastline. This focus on the enduring resilience and beauty of nature sustains us in the darker days of 2020.
Tricia Wormald was born in Rotherham, South Yorkshire and educated in Sheffield. Art was a first love, but economic pressures led her into a career in education and business. She has lived in Abingdon since 1970, save for a 2 year sojourn in Canada. Released from the grindstone in 2013, she began to indulge her latent ambition to paint. She developed a particular interest in Chinese Art which continues to this day. Her interest in exploring a range of different media has developed through her favourite place to paint, the Phoenix Studio in Towersey. An interruption of being diagnosed with a stage 4 cancer in 2014 only served to provide an even greater impetus to capture the world around through art. Thankfully recovered and in remission, Tricia continues the pursuit of capturing the Qi or essence of the world around her. Plans for 2021 include holding a face to face exhibition of the art she is making during the days of Covid.
