I am a printmaker and artist based in Oxford and I make bold, colourful lino prints capturing magical animal stories from around the world. Taking inspiration from the Oxfordshire countryside and beyond, most of my images include the traditional stories, myths and beliefs about animals that people have created to make sense of the world around them. The beliefs and knowledge of other cultures can offer us a greater understanding of the environment. I am fascinated by our ingenuity to create such stories using only the evidence we have around us and want to remember the links we have with nature, and show the importance of animals to us now.
Mainly working in colour, I often use multiple lino blocks, and rollers with gradient ink, to create different layers that add depth to the image. I love the process from original idea to final print. My ideas develop organically throughout each stage of printmaking and I sometimes make last minute changes when carving the block itself.
