Since Artweeks 2020 I have completed my 1,000th daily sketch. The originals are all in small A6 sketchbooks, mostly in pen and ink, pencil or coloured pencil. Many of the individual sketches and a selection of themed montages are available as limited edition prints - maybe the ideal Christmas gift for the lovers of little creatures, cuddly toys or hardware in your life? In July I drew a selection of beer cans, as well as making a montage print of the ‘Mixed Case’, you can choose your own six pack. Check my website for availability, or follow me on Twitter or Instagram for work in progress.
This year I was pleased to take part in the Portraits for NHS Heroes project initiated by the very talented local portrait artist, Tom Croft, painting Lauren, a young London emergency ambulance driver and peramedic. My painting, together with hundreds of other fantastic works, can be found in the book ‘Portraits for NHS Heroes’ published by Bloomsbury. Profits go to NHS Charities, so maybe put this on your Christmas list too.
This year’s Christmas Cards by Oxfordshire Mind feature a selection of my sketches from a month of Christmas themed objects. Please check them out on their website - oxfordshiremind.org.uk/shop - and support them if you can.
After a lifetime working in Graphic Design I am currently trying to spend more time drawing and painting. On January 1st 2018 I started making a drawing a day. I have now made over 1,000 sketches of a variety of places, things and occasionally people. For sanity, rather than trying to choose a subject at random each day, each month has a theme ... Pubs I have known, trees, objects from the Pitt River's Museum, much loved toys ... and many more. For now I’m taking a break from the daily commitment to concentrate on commissions and other work, much inspired by the drawings from the past three years.
I held my first solo exhibition '365 Days and Counting' at Hemingway Art in Cassington in June last year.
