Italo Esposito was born in Trapani, Sicily (Italy). He practised architecture for over forty years, alongside which he cultivated his passions for the visual arts, music, and physical activities such as sailing. Over the years, he has explored the territories of visual art through the adoption of different techniques, from ink on paper to digital graphics, to painting in watercolour, tempera, acrylic and oil. To Italo, art must be expression of absolute freedom. He searches for a form of expression that allows him to represent his feelings, movements of the soul, and territories of the unconscious. Therefore, his subjects always change, while his approach has evolved from the pseudo-realism of his early works to an ongoing preference for abstract expression. One of the main traits of Italo’s work is its playfulness, which frees his expression from mannerisms and stylistic pursuits, downplaying its formal contents while reflecting his natural tendency towards self-irony. Like play to a child, to Italo art is a way to express his personal understanding of the world. The contradictions, grotesqueness, and futility of this world are to him a limitless source of inspiration.
