Exhibition in HMC 16th -25th May 2020
with an Opening on the evening of 15th May
We had hoped that during Oxfordshire Artweeks 2020 that Claude would be exhibiting his woodfired ceramics as well as running workshops, directing a public kiln firing at Oxford University Kiln Project (Wytham Woods) and overseeing a whole raft of activities during Artsweek in conjunction with the other potters of Oxford Anagama.
Between 4 March and 26 May, Harris-Manchester College, Oxford (HMC) is jointly hosting (with Wytham Woods and the Oxford University Kiln Project - OUKP) an Artist’s Residency for two potters: French ceramicist and kiln builder Claude Aussage, President of Incognita Terra, the International Association for Promotion and Exchange in Arts and Crafts was to lead; and bringing with him from France was to be Manon Vallé, who was to have been resident during Artweeks at Wytham Woods, where the University was to have provided a studio, accommodation, and a woodfired kiln.
As part of the Trinity Term 2020 Residency, Claude was to have coordinated a series of pottery events at HMC and at Wytham Woods. Sadly, due to Coronavirus, none of those can now take place and the firings have had to be deferred until a later date. Had the year turned out differently, a kiln firing was to have taken place in the first week of Artweeks at Wytham between 1st - 8th May with an Open Day 9-10th. We would have invited potters to put their bisque and greenware pots into our kilns and to come up to Wytham Woods to participate and learn about firing from Claude's perspective. Claude has his own kilns in France, and regularly fires at La Bourne - a unique pottery village to the south of Paris. Claude works all over the world, including long periods in Japan, Russia and all over Western Europe. It would have been a real privilege to be able to have been able to welcome Claude and his student Manon Vallé to Oxford in 2020. We do hope that the opportunity to invite Claude to Oxfordshire Artweeks will arise again soon, so that you will al be able to see his work and learn from his extensive experience of designing, building and firing ceramics kilns.
