My work focuses on the detail of intricate hand-carved woodblocks and the timeless quality of traditional print methods. I am passionate about reviving the art of traditional hand block printed wallpaper.
I began carving at Manchester School of Art and for my degree show (June 2014) I produced a set of hand-printed lengths of wallpaper using the Columbian printing press. Several different carvings are combined to print each length.
Technology seems to be moving so fast; I wanted to take a step back and slow down to appreciate each part of the making process. Each print is slightly different and the quirks and irregularities that happen along the way are all part of it.
My workshop based in South Oxfordshire backs on to a lush green field of cows and there are fields as far as the eye can see. When i'm working with the studio door open chickens often come by to visit.
