I hope to be at Abingdon and Ardington School of Crafts Fairs in November and to be teaching at Ardington later in the year
I mainly weave scarves and pictures. My thicker woollen scarves are generally priced at around £30 and are popular Christmas presents. Thinner ones which often include silk are around £70. I dye some of my yarns using natural and synthetic dyes. Plain or simple twill weaves are often the most effective way of using coloured yarns. I often use a dip ikat technique which I was taught by Martin Weatherhead. It is a great way of weaving two or more unique scarves on one warp.
I weave two types of pictures: woollen ones using a technique I call "lazy tapestry weaving"; and thinner ones woven using hand-spun silk Most of them are around 20cm by 30cm which are priced around £70 but I also have a few bigger ones woven in wool. I was encouraged to start weaving them by Sue Lewington who paints wonderful watercolours of the Isles of Scilly.
Weaving is a wonderful craft as there is always something new to try. Teaching is very rewarding because of the interesting results produced by inexperienced weavers
