Most of the work is thrown though I am experimenting with hand building. My principal range of glazes are carbon trap shinos which fire very differently on different clay bodies so I use Limoges porcelain but also a sturdy iron rich stoneware from Staffordshire. The dramatic effects of the carbon trapping - which requires ferocious reduction - are enhanced with splashes of sang de boeuf and sprinklings of rose ash and further enhanced with liquid gold lustre, sparingly applied by brush.
This year I will also be exhibiting a collection of pots which I have just brought back from an eight day anagama firing in France - made of porcelain and stoneware they have been decorated by ash and flame alone.
