My recent work has been concerned with the environment and time of my youth; exploring forms and glazes to reflect times of great change and innovation and also the coastal beauty of where I was brought up and also man’s impact on that environment.
With my new body of work, "White Horse Terrain" I am still focussing on the environment but in the context of its importance to a sense of identity and belonging.
I considered the work and creative strategies of artist such as Barbara Hepworth and Nicholas Arroyave- Portella; their work talks about geography and its importance to their identity, this inspired me to consider the bucolic Oxfordshire countryside where I have lived for the past 30 year, and to celebrate its beauty through the local historical iconic White Horse at Uffington Castle. To endorse the local connection of this body of work, I have developed and formulated a unique wood ash glaze made from local wood burnt in my wood burning stove.
