Kate Daunt and Noriko, Mary-Kei and Jamie Macfarlane will be offering a warm welcome with refreshments and a great variety of work at Noriko's peaceful Garden Studio in the attractive village setting of Stanford in the Vale. We are situated mid-way between Faringdon and Wantage, just off the A417. There is on-road parking, and from there a 50-metre stroll down a track brings you to the Studio.
Kate works in collage. Having explored various arts media at Oxford Summer Schools, she has developed her technique to create landscapes and still life in an impressionistic form. Her pictures are often made from hundreds of torn pieces of coloured paper, layered to produce painterly effects. She often uses text in the structure of the composition.
Noriko learned her pottery craft in tis country, but she has always been drawn to the ceramic traditions and styles of her native Japan. All her pots are hand-built stoneware, fired to a very high temperature. She often makes quirky animal and human figures, but she focuses mainly on domestic tableware that is at once practical and highly attractive.
Mary-Kei complements her work as a food stylist with art that celebrates the things we eat and drink for themselves. Her mixed media work includes pieces made of fine black wire outlining watercolour representations. She also produces prints using a unique combination of watercolour and food photography showing all-time favourite condiments. Perfect for the kitchen wall!
Jamie responds to the natural grain and features of a variety of attractive woods to create pieces for domestic use that combine practicality with beauty. His work ranges from wooden spoons to platters, cutting boards and bowls, and on again to coffee tables and larger items of furniture.
