The responsive nature of clay is something that appeals to me greatly & complements the spontaneous nature of my work. I rarely begin a piece with a specific plan in mind. I trust my hands to translate my ideas into the clay; allowing myself to become fully absorbed in the process of creating. What is central to my work is a desire to capture a moment of fluidity or texture that takes me back to a recognisable, observed moment in nature. In itself, this is a bit of a contradiction, as something that is fluid is never static. It is in the texture of the clay & my use of glazes where I try to capture these snapshots. The natural forms upon which I draw create a visual language, allowing me to express without words, the fundamental essence & emotions behind the image in my mind. I hope my work captures this motion, there is always a drip of glaze to be found sliding or a bead of porcelain tracing the curve of a piece.
