Aldworth artists Isobel Pigott and Mandy Monkcom have been painting together regularly. Within the constraints of the pandemic, they discovered a deep connection for nature and those things within and close to their home environments. They also revisited past work and material, approaching and responding to it in a new and fresh way. Isobel spent the early months working with paper cut outs and pastels, before moving on to oils. Colour, pattern and the rhythm of line are a continuing feature of her work. She responds to her subject instinctively whatever it is. Recently she has returned to old studies focussing on the integration of text and image. Mandy’s usual work of portrait painting has taken a new and fun direction, working mostly in oils she has turned to her family and friends for colourful socially distanced reference. The purpose of her work is to convey humour and humanity from a smaller world view.
