Artefacts and textiles acquired directly or indirectly from a variety of countries provide the starting point for many of Clova's paintings. The works hover between still life and interior as they slip between cultures. Arresting colour harmonies, dancing rhythmic pattern and lush texture are interwoven to create immersive compositions which invite the viewer to step into another world. Alongside the main body of work is a selection of watercolours she has done on foreign travels and also a group of ink drawings and paintings from the life room - Clova teaches life drawing at the Ruskin School of Art. During lockdown the garden between the house and studio became another source of inspiration. The paintings and drawings are in a wide range of media including the historic medium of distemper, a combination of pigment and glue size. The venue is spacious comprising a very large music room with a one-way system and access through French windows to an attractive garden and studio.
