Having worked as a conceptual artist for many years in sculpture, photography & video, my previous projects came to a natural end. I am developing a new practice that includes the visceral physicality that part of me has missed in my other work. Working through abstraction, I break down the content into a purer aesthetic form & the work takes on a beauty of its own, detached from the darker context of the original image. This new venture explores painting & drawing without emotional, conceptual, or psychological boundaries.
Playing with colour and pattern, & the interaction between object & light, I create one off ceramic jewellery & vessels inspired by expanses of sea and sky, light & shadow, as well as clean & simple forms. The vessels I create are guided by patterns in the clay, letting the pattern lead, keeping the shape of the piece uncomplicated. My work provides me with a place to explore the grounding nature of clay as a way to create functional objects in a mindful way.
