I am rarely out of my studio in The Chicken Run, where I produce an eclectic mix of both thrown & hand-built work in Raku & Stoneware. Both my New Zealand background and the chooks inspire my work.
I love throwing open forms and experimenting with glazes and textures in Stoneware. From simply thrown bowls to those with expressive lips, jugs with ‘Hand’-les or a seated animal on the rim.
Functional and aesthetic hand-built bowls and garden features include: windchimes; animals on stones; garden birds on bird baths made of coils, dots and imprinted leaves with stunning glazes.
Quirky animals especially hares, pose as I make them; a Jazz band, hiking hares, sporty & dancing hares.
So organic, Raku is instantaneous and pure chemistry in action. Animals, birds and foliage come to life with the natural blackening of unglazed work, cracking & lustre of the glazes and highlighted imprints.
