Painting, for me, is an emotional response to the natural environment. Beginning with early memories of nature walks as a child, over the years, through my love of wild places, which I am constantly seeking out, I have accumulated a mental store of images of meadows and country lanes. This is my reference material, I’m never stuck for a composition – it’s all there in the natural world. I love the untidiness and the showy self-adornment of all forms of vegetation and try to capture that intricate assemblage of wild beauty in my paintings. I hope my work will encourage others to make an emotional connection – to inspire them to value and protect the natural world.
