For this exhibition, I will be displaying paintings in watercolour and acrylic. My style in watercolour is loose and atmospheric, paintings that capture the essence of the subject while leaving areas undefined in order to engage the viewer’s emotions and imagination. Meanwhile, acrylics allow me to be bold and expressive, aiming for looseness with vibrant colour that grabs and delights.
The subject matter in my paintings can vary from portraits (animal and human) to semi-abstracts, whatever happens to call me to the easel at that moment.
I will be drawing in charcoal and pastels during the exhibition so please come and watch or feel free to stop me for a chat.
I have always had a love of art but it was not until the last five years or so that I finally decided to throw myself head and heart into the creative process. So, those artistic muscles that had lain dormant since school have been reawakened, and how!
Experimenting with many different media has led me to discover those which truly lift my spirit and take me into a wonderful and magical space. I have attended many workshops and courses, including at Newlyn School of Art, run by inspiring professional artists and have been a member of an online art school for the past 2 years. The media I most love to work in are watercolour, acrylics and pastels. In addition, I regularly sketch figures and portraits in charcoal which helps keep my observational skills sharp.
