Paintings and Letterpress Prints
An eclectic collection: Abstract landscapes and objects of interest painted in acrylics on canvas; letterpress prints and cards; card mounted prints and sketches.
I like to express myself through art in contrasting ways. Letterpress printmaking is a planned process: setting the type; choosing the colours; registering the paper and doing the prints. I love handling and collecting the wooden and metal type as much as mixing colours and printing itself.
When I paint, the more I let go and paint from the heart the better. I make a point of ditching any systematic thinking and let out whatever feels right in the moment. Painting to me is a heartfelt form of expression. I am inspired by the beauty of small things. That might be my art materials or things found in nature. It might be a simple expression of a place or moment.
I love to play with bold colour and experiment with mark making. My work often has a degree of abstraction to it.
