I have been a member of Artweeks since the mid 1990s and as a consequence have met many people interested in painting from Oxfordshire and further afield and have made many friends who have returned regularly to see my paintings exhibited in my house and garden.
Anyone wishing to see my work outside of Artweeks North dates of 21-29 May are welcome to contact me on 01993 850139 or 07790699023 at any time.
At sixteen I studied at Sheffield College of Art before moving to London to the Slade School of Fine Art where I studied under Sir William Coldstream, Patrick George and a young Lucien Freud. At that time teaching drawing was paramount, so for me drawing is fundamental to painting and this is reflected in my work. I always work directly from the subject matter either out of doors, whatever the weather, or indoors in my studio and I never work from photographs.
Throughout my career I have exhibited widely including the RA Summer Show, the West of England Academy, Birmingham Royal Society of Artists, and Lynn Painter Stainers Prize Exhibition in the Mall Gallery. I have had several solo exhibitions in London, Birmingham, Oxford and Durham. My work is held in public collections listed in the Public Catalogue Foundation www.bbc.co.uk/art/your paintings
Although frustrated during Covid not to paint in Blenheim or Fairford Church, or to paint on holiday I have been fortunate to find inspiration in my garden and on the local allotments where my wife has a vegetable plot and her neighbours grow wonderful sunflowers and dahlias among their veg. So the last two years have continued to be surprisingly creative.
