Work in mixed-media, acrylic paint, ink and wash and screen-printing.
Image, gesture, journey, mood, magic and flow.
This work is focussed on the themes of landscape and nature, and the the abstract and figurative possibilities for creating imagery. It all begins life as loosely imagined painterly marks and is formed through processes of addition, removal, and accident. In this way I engage in conversations with the paint surface, gesture, layers, edges, and recalcitrant imagery. The fun bit is as the work develops, I try to formulate the potential for success within a struggle between what I want and the reality of the media and materials.
Though I enjoy the figurative and observed (which provides a kind of mindfulness and certainty) I am equally interested in developing techniques which incorporate creative play and flow, where I can develop my own visual language and narratives. These abstract flow pieces are produced in parallel and as poetic connections with my figurative work and often are produced over long periods of time.
