For this collection I have been inspired by the abstract natural world. Each piece is either a collage of fabric, hand and machine embroidery or a monoprint. Some of the monoprints use leaves from my garden, others are on delicate tissue. This year, my motivation is to use what I have in my studio and I have tried not to buy more art supplies (that is so difficult as I love art supplies!) However, found fabrics, inherited embroidery silks, tissue from packaging have all been incorporated into an eclectic mix.
I love to work in mixed media, found objects and textiles and usually incorporate embroidery somewhere along the line.
I am fascinated with layers and textures and the way different mediums can be combined, often with surprising results
I adore free machine embroidery and collage and as I never quite know how my work will turn out I allow it to develop organically. Most of my pieces are slightly wonky and quirky and I like nothing better than to find or reuse something and turn it into something else.
I find myself inspired by so many things including the natural world and historical artefacts.
I work in a pretty little summerhouse in my garden surrounded by flowers, trees, vegetables and plenty of wild life. It is my haven and my peaceful happy place.
