I am a largely self-taught artist and paint intuitively without an outcome in mind when I begin a piece of work. I have learnt much from working spontaneously, going with the flow, being in the moment and letting go of intention; This shows through in the work I produce. As a musician I see similarities in the way that I paint and play music. I find it difficult to read music, instead playing by ear; In painting I find it difficult to keep to rules and principles! This can be both exciting and scary.

People feel emotionally drawn to the colour in my work. My love of colour is strongly influenced by where I was born and raised - the beautiful island of Sri Lanka. I love all shades of blue, with ultramarine being my favourite.

My first solo exhibition was in Sri Lanka in 1977. However, it is only in the past few years I have begun to take my art more seriously. I am enjoying the freedom and opportunity to explore and experiment with different mediums and techniques: I work mainly in oils and acrylics but have been experimenting with cold wax and oil.

Over the years I have had the privilege of exhibiting alongside other artists in the different countries I have lived in, which included two solo exhibitions in Germany.
