After finishing an Arts Foundation course in my forties, I have had many exhibtions including ‘Wildsong’ at the Northwall in Oxford in 2019 ,several Oxfordshire Artweeks shows in Little Wittenham and at galleries in North Wales including The Royal Cambrian Academy and MOMA and won the Welsh regional prize at the Discerning Eye in Nov ’21 at the Mall Galleries in London.. A large painting of the view from Wittenham Clumps has recently been selected for the Royal Society of British Artists exhibition at the Mall galleries, London 3-12th March. I also volunteer with ‘community art’ and have painted with schools in Central America and West Africa and am about to start work with schools and community groups on ten huge panels to create a long mural for the Earthtrust. . Im always happy to take on commissions.
We are fortunate to live in a country with a wide variety of landscapes and for this exhibition I have been enjoying painting the lochs and mountains of Northwest Scotland, the west coast and mountains of mid-Wales, wetlands along the river Thames and Oxfordshire nature reserves especially at the Wittenham Clumps . I am a keen walker and Iove isolated wild places and my interest in environmental conservation is reflected in my Art. I try to work in situ outside, working loosely, energetically, and intuitively in oils on canvas or board, often painting large scale but will often finish off inside my studio. I feel that Art has role to play in not only reminding people of the beauty of the landscape but highlighting the importance of protecting our habitats and their biodiversity. I also love to paint plants and trees and am including a number of large oil sketches of flowers and plants and charcoal drawings of trees and grasses.
