Wallhangings, home textiles, clothing and accessories, all created with sustainable processes and natural dyes
I am a textile and mixed media artist, capturing the beauty of nature using the natural pigments and imprints of the leaves themselves – no synthetic ink, dyes or silk screens are involved. From these textiles I craft clothing, scarves ,home textiles and wall art.
In a process known as ecoprinting or botanical contact printing, a combination of pressure and steam coaxes the pigments from the leaves into the fabric. The natural colours are soft and harmonious, and the process is non polluting and respectful of the environment. Despite this, these textiles are washable and colourfast.
Leaves and dyes come from sustainable sources – many I grow myself. The smallest change in plant species, climatic conditions or water source produces variations in the prints,so every piece is unique. Textiles used are natural, organically produced and ethically sourced wherever possible. Vintage and recycled textiles are sourced from French brocantes and charity shops, but I also work with luxurious silks and velvets. All these techniques are the antithesis of today’s ‘throwaway’ society.
