I will be exhibiting approx. 30 plein air/studio oil paintings made over the last year in the local Oxfordshire area. There are a huge variety of subjects ranging from townscapes (Witney, Oxford and Minster Lovell amongst others), to various landscapes of the local countryside and the Windrush Valley/River. I also have a few seascapes from the Gower and the odd still life or two. Paintings are of a variety of sizes ranging from small 18 x 24cm studies to 40 x 50cm works.
My background is in originally in chemistry rather than art, for the past 12 years I have worked in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors as a scientist. I only really picked up a paintbrush for the first time in 2019 (other than in school where I was utterly hopeless at it!) and have been hooked ever since.
My main focus at the moment is on Oxfordshire landscapes and townscapes, which I do both plein-air and in the studio. I enjoy trying to capture the beauty/mood of a particular place and time of day under various light/weather conditions. I like to employ suggestion using various brushwork rather than detailed rendering, the end result being paintings that in my opinion maintain some realism but also have a number of interesting elements to look at.
