I have my new selection of my art work in the 'Woodbine Art Gallery' in Middleton Cheney. James Martin has opened his Bespoke Picture Framers business and has lovely art gallery which is showing a wonderful selection of artwork plus artist cards too. It is well worth a visit.
Its opposite the Co-op in Middleton Cheney OX17 2PB .
Last year was such an unprecedented year and continues to be so into 2021. For me, it has been great opportunity to create my art without restrictions or deadlines. I could go at my own pace and enjoy the process without fear of the result.
I signed up to do an on-line course that gave me a focus and each week I was given different assignments. This gave me permission to play and find different ways of expressing myself in my art. It gave me a sanctuary and saved my sanity. I had a reason to get up and get going each day. So, in the last year I have been in my studio experimenting, dabbling with lots of tools and different media, I used big brushes, sticks, anything to make marks; I even used brillo pads to get marks on to the paper. I splashed, spattered, streaked, scrawled and scribbled even throwing ink at it. It really was very liberating. I had lots of fun, learnt and accomplished so much.
From this liberating experience, my new artwork was formed using a mixture of all of these techniques. Some of the artwork is dramatic landscape and others are abstracts, using a variety of shapes, texture and colour.
Such as my ‘Golden Storm’ piece – the techniques give a strong contrast of colour and drama to the viewer of a summer storm. It gives hope that we know this storm will pass and everything will be alright. It is symbolic of these days we are facing. In other of my works the view is a calm and peaceful showing soft light and muted colour on the rolling undulating landscape.
In all of my work there is a contrast and eclectic mix of emotions and feelings of either the drama of an approaching storm and colour of the landscape or paddling in a boat across a lake to a jug of white lilies that were given to me. I have no fix theme or idea in my work but this last year I am really pushing the boundaries. I am now on a path to find my own artistic voice by trying all different subjects and media. I intend continue this path using variety of media and tools such as adding to or scraping away, splashing, scribbling to eventually arrive at a result that I am pleased with. I hope you too find my work resonates with you, giving you pleasure looking at it.
Unfortunately my website is still under construction so .. will not be live just yet ! (Very frustrating !)
