As a jeweller and a gemmologist, Sally is lucky enough to combine two of her passions in her work as well as being able to share them with students of both subjects.
Her life-long obsession with stones started when she was small, spending many happy hours collecting pebbles on the beach. The stones may have become more expensive over the years, but she is still fascinated by them and has studied both coloured stones and diamonds with the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, of which she is proud to be a Fellow.
In her own work she loves sourcing the more usual stones and is influenced by time spent by the sea either fossil hunting or just enjoying the sights, sounds and those huge skies.
With no shows and little teaching over the past year, Sally has concentrated on her passion for gemstones and has written a quick reference guide for jewellers that can live on their bench and answer those “should I be doing this” questions when working with gems. More information can be found on her website here https://www.sallyspencer.co.uk/sally-spencer-book.html
When not in the workshop, Sally enjoys getting out into nature walking her dog and if that is on a beach where there might be interesting stones or fossils to find then that’s perfect!
