This years work explores the theme of community. I have created an installation with figures representing the emotional landscape within the family home. Growing up with a parent with a mental illness meant I was often left alone to create, throughout my childhood. The love of creating objects and exploring the emotional attachment to objects is a common theme. I have used fabrics from my parent's clothes and the doll's house which belonged to me as a child, to refurbish the house I have used pages of my mother's books, photos and ephemera that is reminiscent of my past. The dolls inside the house represents conflicting emotions within my childhood home but, as I created the work it reminded me of how currently we are all experiencing new family dynamics in Covid times, young adults have been quarantining with their families, or people have been left to cope alone. The community has never been more important.
