Having spent my professional life as a graphic designer I now really love working in three dimensions and I have fun creating caricatured figures of animals and people. However, clay portrait sculpture is what I enjoy most and hope to develop this going forward. I like to work in Earthstone Handbuild and Craft Crank clays which I fire mostly to stoneware. Although much of my work is glazed, I will sometimes add colour after firing with sprays and polishes to get the effect I want. I dont cast my work so all my pieces are unique - a "one off".

Born and brought up on the west coast of Scotland I have a great love of the natural world and the human form, both of which have become the source of my inspiration. At first I was very drawn to sculpture, but when I went to Camberwell School of Art in London I decided to study for a BA Hons degree in Graphic Design as I thought that would give me a better chance of earning a living. After working as a graphic designer in London for many years I moved to Oxford where I started my own small design business, "Oxford Art and Design". I retired from graphic design a few years ago, and with the help and advise of some wonderful teachers and friends at The Phoenix Studio, Thame, and the Bicester Sculpture Group, I have gone full circle and have now taken up sculpture which has become my passion. I really love working in the fabulous medium of clay which is both very forgiving and expressive, but I am also looking forward to expanding into other mediums in the future.
