Heimat : Home
A celebration of where we feel at home or what makes a home...
It is always a heart warming thing to make art which brings different people together. I know of nothing quite like the connection of art, where politics, religion, language or skin colour play no role.
I would be very happy when you too would be willing to sew your thoughts on 'Home' using red cotton, on a piece of white fabric.
(approx. 16/20 or 20/20 cm).
Already the house is made together with stitches from different people from Germany, England, Holland, Denmark, Scotland, France, Italy, Portugal, Uruguay, Australia and South Africa.
If you'd like to take part, please stitch your contribution and deliver or post your work to 12 High Street, Watlington, OXON ideally before 13 May 2021. The installation will be exhibited through out Art weeks. The next stop for the house is Poland!
About Kathrin Stalder
As a Swiss, Kathrin always jokes about her tiny apartment. But as an open minded artist, she has a big house in her heart that opens for everyone she encounters.
Born in 1949 Switzerland, Kathrin has a childlike instinct to perceive everyday object in a different way. To Kathrin, both lives and streets are artists’ stages and studios. She collects material from the streets. She recognises insignificant objects, and starts a new experimental landscape.
Creativity has always been centred in her daily life. Kathrin was a volunteer teaching arts in African townships. She teaches people to “play” with art in the easiest way because she believes that art belongs to everyone. She believes that art exists through sharing. She believes that art is everywhere.
Kathrin creates different works in different places while she is traveling. Wherever she goes, she starts by embracing foreign environments, and she ends by creating surprises and artworks. Kathrin, like many other artists, is gifted of rediscovering beauty in our familiar city.
Originally a nurse, Kathrin develops her unique style by her efforts and enthusiasm. Her nursing background also made her an artist who enjoys sharing ideas and emotion to others. By doing art, she believes it somehow brings joy and a cure. Her works mainly focus on: conceptual jewellery, installation, and paper–book collage. She is also known for textile graffiti– a knitting project in Basel.
