Christopher Legge and Angela Seger-Legge have kindly agreed to host my Artweeks solo exhibition in their lovely Aladdin's cave of high quality textile wonders - carpets ancient and modern, exotic embroideries, tapestries and much more - in their newly refurbished shop right in the middle of Summertown. They have generously given over the two major out facing walls for display of my works during Artweeks Oxford City. So you can expect to see around 25 of my pieces.
I will be showing a cross section of work produced during the last 2-3 years as well as several brand new pieces that are emerging as I have recently been re-energised by the prospect of springtime, vaccine, end of lockdown and Artweeks!
All pieces will be for sale, come mounted on acid free board and are framed in beautiful wooden box frames.
I explore the painterly and sculptural qualities of yarns and fibres, creating small poetic ‘weavescapes’– woven pieces mounted in handmade wooden box frames for wall display. The pieces have titles so each tells a ‘story’.
I use a wide variety of materials, often within one piece. I am pre-occupied with bringing movement to the rigid angular grid set by the shaft loom, often sacrificing the traditional stability of cloth for maximum expressiveness, thus giving yarns the space to ‘breathe’, trying to weave pieces of art that feel like objects come to life.
