Everyone is warmly welcome to my porcelain button exhibition which will be hosted in the little orchard beside my cottage in South Moreton. My neighbour, Alice Roberts, will also be showcasing her wonderful countryside inspired Linoprints.
Each button is individually made, hand decorated, hand painted and unique - a little piece of art in its own right. Many are inspired by the rich nature of the surrounding South Oxfordshire countryside and others just by things I absolutely love. I try to make buttons to suit everybody and every eventuality so expect to see an amazing array.
Not only will I have hundreds of buttons for you to see and choose from, but I have also created ‘button art’ pieces specially for Artweek.
Alice and I are very excited as this is our first Artweek exhibition. We hope you enjoy experiencing our art as much as we’ve enjoyed making it.
Over the past year, my love for knitting has evolved into a quest to create perfect buttons for everyone and every occasion. I could never find buttons that I liked, so I decided to make my own!
With access to a kiln, I create intricate porcelain buttons at home, inspired by the beautiful surroundings of South Oxfordshire, all things botanical and my much loved pets. I make them in all shapes, sizes and colours, and each is individually handmade and hand decorated, meaning there is most definitely a button for you. My favourites are the botanical buttons (a throwback to my scientist days in plant cell microscopy) decorated with plant material found while out walking my dogs, which makes them extra special.
Since taking early retirement, when I’m not making buttons, I love to spend time with my dogs - Lucy and Mabel, get out gardening, care for my wonderful hens, cook up a storm on the Aga and, of course, knit!
Making porcelain buttons has been so much fun and I just love to see them on your creations and what you do with them. I believe buttons are the finishing touch which can make something truly ‘you’ and totally beautiful.
