My work was a bit slow in 2020 due to getting covid and spending three months in the ICU at the John Radcliffe! However, I am now back working in my studio. I will be showing both what I have done recently and earlier work.
I live in a small Oxfordshire village where I have my studio. I work with oils, acrylic, charcoal, and occasional collage. Some work is inspired by being in the landscape around me, with my sketchbook and watercolours to hand. Life drawing is also part of my practice. My more abstract paintings often show impressions and memories of specific places I have visited. I try to order the jumbled mosaic of recollections by putting down the defining connotations of a place and expressing the particular colours, shapes, mood and sensations experienced there. Abstract work also comes from and an inner landscape of visual images invoked by music and poetry - seeking an equivalent on the canvas within the components of form, colour space.
