Oh! We missed you last year! So pandemic-permitting, my brother Paul Tomlinson and I hope to welcome you in person to our exhibition in May. I will be showing some of my recent paintings of the natural world and my quirky hand-painted maps. And Paul will be showing his beautiful drawings of local townscapes. We have been hugely busy creating art and now need you to see it.
Our exhibition space is a large, light and airy conservatory with two doors and lots of windows. You can enter by the front door, and exit at the back into my fabulous garden in which you can linger quite safely. IMPORTANT! In-person visitors MUST adhere to my covid security policy:

As well as as original paintings, we have a wide range of signed prints, greetings cards, tea towels and coasters available.
WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT MY WORK:
“Jane has, over the years, produced a body of the most life affirming, colourful and magical contemporary art around. Scenes and depictions of subjects, mostly drawn from the natural world, occupy a beguiling hinterland between realism and the magical and as such, bestride detailed observation and whimsical imagination with delightful results. There’s humour present, especially in Jane’s detailed but almost otherworldly maps of places that offer an unfamiliar view of the familiar.” - Russell B, Manchester, UK
"I was so fortunate a few years ago to visit Eynsham & meet Jane during Artweeks! Jane's art is amazing. She puts her whole self into her work, but mostly her heart. In her work you see her vibrant, astounding love of life. It is fulfilled with a wondrous imagination and an incredible amount of detail. I am in AWE of Jane and her ART" - DiAnne P, Texas, US
"Jane Tomlinson's paintings are a vibrant reminder of the wild life and countryside we all love. Her love of nature shines through, the birds sing to you, butterflies dance and the art work expresses her attention to detail. " - Thelma W, Wiltshire, UK
"Beautiful paintings celebrating the intricacies of Mother Earth, an inspired artist with an exquisite ability to capture the variety and fragility of nature." - Nicki R, Oxfordshire, UK
I make colourful, vibrant paintings inspired mostly by wondrous things from the natural world - birds, animals, trees, landscape, anything! I’m unfeasibly fond of maps.
I was born in Stratford-upon-Avon and travelled widely before coming to study in Oxford decades ago, and I then made Oxfordshire my home. I have been here every since. I taught myself to paint in my 30s. My ‘natural’ medium is watercolour, but I also use acrylics, acrylic inks, and printmaking using the drypoint technique. I especially admire van Gogh, Gauguin, Hockney, Matisse, and 17th century Dutch and Flemish artists.
In recent years I have been hand-drawing and hand-painting maps. In 2016 I won a prestigious award from the British Cartographic Society for my painted map of the Shipping Forecast.
