Artist information

Jane Peart

After graduating from art college I worked in a design studio in London. I then moved to Oxford in 1978. Having previously had some experience of etching in London, I signed up for a course at Oxford Printmakers Co-operative. I then concentrated on etching for many years building a strong connection with Oxford Printmakers working for a while as a technician there.

In the last few years, since lockdown, I started branching out into other areas of work – digital drawing, acrylic painting and pen and ink and mixed media drawings.

Commissions: The Oxford Radcliffe NHS Hospital Trust commissioned me to make a 42-plate etching depicting hospital life – architecture, people and technology. I have also been commissioned to illustrate books, brochures, information panels and a series of drawings for a property development company in Oxford. I was commissioned to make a commemorative piece of animal illustrations for a Professor of Zoology at Oxford University, this was created digitally. I have also completed a series of etchings and paintings of a large house and gardens in Hampshire.

Collections: I have work in the collection of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford; Kew Gardens; Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital, London and The Oxford Radcliffe Hospital Trust.

Exhibitions I have exhibited my work widely in galleries and art fairs throughout the UK. Until recently I have exhibited annually at the Affordable Art Fair in London and regularly take part in Oxfordshire Artweeks.

I am a member of Oxford Printmakers and the Oxford Art Society.

Exhibition information

I shall be showing a selection of paintings, drawings, etchings and digital drawings. After devoting many years to printmaking I have taken up painting which I really enjoy. I find it very challenging but can spend hours loosing myself in my work. My paintings are of landscapes of places that I have visited. I enjoy trying to portray the light and atmosphere of the chosen view. Other ideas often arise from animal and bird studies. I endeavour to show the detail and texture of the skin, fur or feathers of the subject. Other inspiration for my work comes from my immediate surroundings; small glimpses of everyday scenes or places I have visited in England or abroad. The aim in my work is to portray the characters of the animals I am drawing, or to capture the mood of a scene that has inspired me. I strive to create the texture and feel of the subject I am drawing or painting.
