Thrown Stoneware Jug

Region: Wheatley – South & Vale

Artform: Ceramics

My stoneware pots are both useful and decorative and I think of them as canvasses for painting my richly coloured palette of glazes.

Born in South Africa, I trained and worked as an industrial designer, and engineering draftswomen before I came to England to study ceramics at the Royal College of Art. While shape and function are important to me, I’m drawn to experimenting with glaze materials and metal oxides, to widen the range of texture and colour. Each pot is unique, which keeps the excitement of production alive.

I work mostly in stoneware clay making functional pieces, fired in a gas kiln, and sometimes hand build larger pieces. I’ve been making pottery and teaching for forty years, exhibiting around the country.
