For Artweeks in May I will be opening up my studio along with 10 other artists from Ayres House Studios in Wallingford. I will continue working during that week on whatever I happen to be doing at the time, sharing my work, creative processes and studio paraphernalia.
Some of my works have a background influence from growing up on the Isle of Wight exploring coast, plimsoll, plumb and horizon lines. There is a leveling effect to look as far as the eye can see. I think thats why I like pottery, or prioritising sound, it centres me in a similar way. Achieving stillness or distilling an idea is an active process and my compositions are all processes of 'looking to be still' or 'to distil', whatever medium, form or subject I use, from painting, drawing, pottery, writing, recording or multi sensory installations and collections.
A small selection of studio pieces, limited edition prints and pottery will be available to purchase from my studio, as well as through the Ayres House Studios gallery e-shop www.ayreshousestudios.co.uk/gallery-shop.
On my Artweeks profile I will share a little bit of everything in the hope of giving an overall impression of my practice as an artist. For any questions relating to my work please email emmasouter.art@gmail.com.
Full and up to date exhibit information will be available at www.ayreshousestudios.co.uk/artweeks-2021 and on our Artweeks group exhibit listing.
In 2017 I formed Adumbration Arts, to help provide opportunities for artists and members of the public to create, connect and collaborate and as an umbrella to continue my research and to teach. I am proud to say that in 2019 I set up Ayres House Studios, which provides myself and 15 others with a wonderful place to work. Alongside my studio practice and being a Mum to one boy and two spaniels, I am a part time and sessional art tutor. Over my 17 years teaching, I have taught art in leisure, family learning, staff training and offender learning; working for The Manchester College, Milton Keynes college, Mind, Daler Rowney, Artsmart, BSUF and Bucks Adult learning.
I like to advocate people creating works of their own and enjoy teaching as part if what I do. I have missed it due to the Covid-19 restrictions of the last year and look forward to re starting classes as soon as is realistic.
I am currently studying for a diploma in counselling and previously studied at Oxford Brookes University, Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College and Central Saint Martins.
Painting, portrait and pottery commissions taken.
