I am exhibiting at West Oxford Community Centre as part of a wocArt, a group of West-Oxford-based artists. Our theme this year is "community" and I couldn't think of a better example of this that the annual July "Funday" run by the Community Centre. I am in the middle of working on a series of paintings recalling past Fundays and bringing in as many aspects of the experience as I can. I also plan to show some of the work inspired by the theme of "identity" which I started last year and have continued with throughout lockdown: this is rather more introspective; it draws on my own personal experiences growing up, using my love of Greek sculpture to help express ideas. I will be adding more images on these 2 themes to my Gallery as I complete the work.
As an artist, I am largely self-taught: I did Art A level but, instead of going to Art School, I read Classics at Wadham College, Oxford. I am very interested in painting and drawing people, capturing them in action or absorbed in what they are doing, but can be inspired by anything I see, particularly where there are strong forms or lighting involved. Usually I work in acrylic paint, collage or pastel but I have also started experimenting with other media such as pen and ink and printing and hope that this will feed into this year's exhibition.
