Art at St Andrews , Headington, site 113, Amazing Art in Wonderful Places - open this year in a Covid secure way, from 8th to 16th May, 12 - 6pm. Seven artists will display a wonderful range of ceramics, photography, silversmithing, glass and painting.
My own work will show painting and drawing in various media, inspired by a wide range of things I have seen, from domestic objects to seascape, from a view of the woods to studies of life models. I find that anything I see can be wonderfully interesting, and that there is a lot of fun to be had in the variety of media available.
I have always loved drawing and painting and find I have more time for it now that I'm retired, from teaching/training. The pictures are figurative, at the impressionistic end of the spectrum. In my photograph what you see is not exactly a studio, it's the corner of the spare room in our house in Headington.
Sketching outside and in Oxford's museums with friends used to be wonderful - since Covid though I have been doing more still life subjects at home. Some landscapes have been possible though, and some pictures have been made from sketchbook studies and photographs.
I am becoming more and more interested in playing with colour in various media, including the iPad. Vibrant, rich colours can give drama even to quiet domestic subjects. I like using both acrylic and pastel, because both are forgiving of mistakes and have a wonderful range of colours.
