Exhibition information
This body of work draws inspiration from my recent trip to Costa Rica. I was struck not only by the country’s lush and diverse rural landscapes but also by its urban environments—where opulent buildings stand alongside impoverished dwellings. The makeshift constructions of brick often featured vibrant splashes of colour painted on corrugated iron sheets, reflecting a simple yet hopeful spirit among people living with limited means.
I am predominantly a landscape painter and work en plein air to create small studies which then I develop into larger paintings. I work in mixed media and have created collage of many shops and buildings in Woodstock and Oxford. I am happiest with a pencil or paintbrush in my hand to capture everyday life, a quote from Pisarro which sums up my work is “happy are those who see Beauty in normal things where others see nothing.”
